Did you know that Waushara County has over 70 cemeteries & burial places? Yes, it's true. There are also numerous locations scattered throughout the county where some have been buried out on the back forty of the old homestead. A lilac bush or a single tree in the middle of a farmers field is often an indication that it is someone's resting place. Fascinating fact...Mary Decorah, an Indian girl, was believed to have been working in the cranberry industry at the time of her death. Notice her name in the Township of Aurora in the far lower right corner of the Cemetery Map. Her burial place is located on County Road EE, 1 mile north of Highway 21, east of Auroraville. Big John, an Indian man, is buried in the township of Deerfield (middle row, 2nd from left, on map) on the SW bank of the head of the West branch of the White River Mill Pond. Updating our cemetery records is an on-going effort, as you can imagine. We also have volumes upon volumes of obituaries archived by township for you to look through. We are happy to assist you in your genealogy research!
